Coach Layout FAQ
What are the different types of railway coaches?
Indian Railways uses several types of coaches. ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches are the older design with a steel body, narrower width, and lower passenger capacity. LHB (Linfen-Hofer-Bahne) coaches are modern stainless steel coaches that are lighter, safer, and more comfortable with a higher seating capacity. Tejas coaches are a premium variant of LHB with LED lighting, automatic doors, infotainment screens, and superior interiors. Vande Bharat coaches are designed for semi-high-speed operations with aerodynamic shape, rotating seats, and fully sealed gangways. Each coach type is designed for a specific train category and service level.
